For Immediate Release

TAMPA, Fla. (July 28, 2014) – The American Software Testing Qualifications Board (ASTQB) has introduced the 2014-2015 research grant initiative to support academic research that advances the practice of software testing.

Grants will be awarded to qualified individuals or groups affiliated with an accredited U.S. institution of higher education with innovative ideas for addressing key issues including but not limited to:

  • Realistic early scoping of the testing effort (schedule and budget)
  • Appropriate testing techniques for a specific application domain or development methodology
  • Adapting established approaches to new problems such as security assurance
  • Responding to emerging technological challenges (mobile applications or ‘big data,’ for instance)
  • Establishing justifiable exit criteria (when to stop testing)

“As the U.S. Board for the world’s most popular software tester certification, we appreciate how ISTQB Certification offers a career path for software testers,” said ASTQB President Judy McKay, CTAL Full, CTEL-TM Full. “We want to ensure that software testing itself is also progressing through robust, meaningful research.”

“Our hope is that this research will have a significant impact on the practice of software testing,” continued McKay. “Moreover, the research findings will be presented to the international experts who volunteer their time to make ISTQB Software Tester Certification the gold standard for software testers throughout the world. With more than 350,000 ISTQB Certified testers in 70+ countries, this research may have a global impact.”

The ASTQB 2014-15 Call for Research Proposals may be found here. Proposals must be submitted by September 12, 2014.
