O*NET OnLine, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, has declared software QA/testing to be a career with a "Bright Outlook," "Hot Technologies," and "In-Demand Skills" in 2025.

O*NET lists 126 hot technologies and 18 in-demand skills for this career. New: 529 Funds Can Be Used for Certifications

Thanks to recent legislation, 529 plans were expanded to include credentialing, certification, and trade programs, not just traditional college expenses. This includes:

Tuition, fees, books, supplies, equipment
Required exam fees

One of the ways to be considered a qualified program under this provision is for the credentialing to be listed in the WEAMS database maintained by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, according to Saving for College. This new law came into effect on July 4, 2025.
